Experimental & maintenance trains

Tomix bullet trains have a close coupling mechanism that simulates the full width diaphragms these cars have.
It allows them to go around very small radius curves, without any gap visible between adjacent cars.

However the latest Tomix model, the Kyushu series 800 Shinkansen, has the new TS coupler, which is body mounted and does leave a gap on curves.

Except for their old 0 and 200 series sets, Kato use a coupling mechanism involving the car diaphragms, which clip
together. However a gap is visible between the cars, especially on curves.

MicroAce also a different type of body mounted connector again.
