Tomix Kilopost #72 Included in this issue is ...
The major subject this month is the new Tokyo Metro system, with articles on all the lines different rolling stock, both JR, private and subway. There is also a report from a person that rode on the majority of all 12 subway lines in one continuous trip, starting at Asakusa and ending at Naka-Meguro !!! Also reports on trips taken on some of JR Central's limited express services.
RM Models 07/2004 Kato 10-401 Kiha85 series DC 5 car set 'Wide View Hida'
JR Central does not have many models available of their rolling stock fleet, and this is one of the best. It is a very sleek, stylish looking train, and the model captures this look very well. It is painted in the familiar 'corporate' colours of silver with orange stripes and a white nose, and black window bands. The roof is light gray, and unfortunately all the roof details are molded as part of the roof and painted the same colour. The underbody details are a darker gray, and have fantastic details of all the twin diesel motors. These sets come with interior lighting already fitted. Car numbers, and the green car logos is preprinted, but there is no other lettering printed. There is a sheet of destination signboards, covering 'Nagoya', 'Osaka' and 'Takayama'. The end car of each set with the streamlined end has a dummy coupler, and the blunt end car has a bogie mounted Kato 'buckeye' coupler, which is allowed to swing through a large gap in the skirt. The other cars have the Kato coupler with dummy hoses, and as far as I can see, this is the only change with this re-release. Kato didn't bother to see fit to include blacked wheels with this re-release, but the train does run smoothly and quietly. The inside end cars of the main set have switchblade head/tail lights, but the inside end car of the dummy set does not have any lights. The 5 car and 3 car addon sets both come in Kato's 'small' storage case.
