23rd August 2004 More news from JAM2004. Tomix have probably seen the news of the Bandai truck release, and have jumped out with their own !!! Just announced is the 4th in their 'Collection' series (Bus, building, and then Car) - 'The Truck Collection'. First release is due in 2005, and is a range of different types of Isuzu and Hino truck, from older to quite modern. One type is the same as the Bandai release. There will be 12 different vehicles as well as a 'secret' one, and they also say they will do at least a second release. See sample pictures from release poster below ...

21st August 2004 Some interesting new items were shown at the JAM2004 exhibition this weekend, including some new Unitrack items from Kato. If you are using the new Double Track Plate system, now you can do something other than watch your trains go round and round and round and etc ... They were showing a normal and a scissors crossover, level crossing and other sized pieces. 19th August 2004 Kato have announced the release date for the first few items in the Diotown Metro system. Due out on the 24th is ... 23-431A Office Building 1 (red brick) 18th August 2004 Tomix have put details of their train-mounted video camera system on their web site. It uses a 2 car Kiha187 set, with one car handling the video equipment, and the other car containing the motor. The signal is sent though the track, and a splitter box separates the signal from the track power. See details on their page here. It is due sometime in 2005 and will cost ¥39,800. 17th August 2004 Tomix have announced more new releases for later this month ... 26th - 'The Bus Collection' #4 MicroAce have announced their list of releases for September, and they are ... This month, the theme is 'Recent Railway Technology Updates', and the main article covers the role of the Railway Technical Research Institute, with a summary of the activities it is involved in. I wish I could understand what all the technical diagrams were all about !!! other articles cover the increasing use of LED displays, and how they work; the TIMS (Train Information Management System) that is the current on-board car monitoring system used by JR East; and a summary of the recent technological advances used in the latest Shinkansen, tilting and maglev etc trains. Other articles cover the new Tokaido E231 sets, new trams at Nagasaki, and rides on the Super Hitachi, Tsubasa and View Wakashio. DVD - Highvision Hayate Company : Sony Music Distribution Because of the length of the journey, it will not fit on even 1 DVD, so disk one takes you from Hachinoe to Sendai, and disk 2 completes the journey from Sendai to Tokyo. The 631.9 km trip was done in December 2003 using E2-1000 set J52, with a departure time of 10:04, arriving in Tokyo at 13:08. The train only stops at Morioka (where there is a driver change), Sendai, Omiya & Ueno.With so few stops, and a top speed of 275 km/h, it is the fastest way to go between Tokyo and northern Honshu. Whilst it is not apparent whether an E3 Komachi set is attached to the other end or not at Morioka, announcements after Sendai confirm that they are running together. After an short introduction showing an E2 set speeding though the landscape at various locations, the Main Menu gives you a list of the stations, letting you start at either Hachinoe or Morioka. Once underway however, you can use your chapter button to access the other stations along the way. Disk 2's menu lets you access the stations again, as well as a brief summary of the E2 trains, and a slideshow of the trains and stations along the journey. Unfortunately, the day they chose to film the trip was rather rainy, and the windscreen wipers are not used as much as I thought they should be. However this is a disk that will give you a view of something not normally ever able to be seen, and is especially interesting once you reach the Tokyo urbanized area.
