BACK ISSUES EDITORIAL Quite a large amount of new releases announced from MicroAce, it will be interesting to see how many make the target month !!! If you have any comments about this service, and would like to make suggestions as to what you do or do not want to see included, please free free to let us know. If you are paying for something, we would like to know that you are 100% happy with what you are getting, and that it is fulfilling your needs. Please write to this address with any comments you may have. This newsletter is available by subscription, unless you are a recent customer of 'Japanese Model Supplies'. 17th September 2004 On the 23rd, Tomix will release the next three in the re-tooled DD51DL range, including the limited edition 'Euroliner' version. 16th September 2004 On the 22nd, Kato will re-release the EH10 EL. Later in the month will be the first new EF66 EL, and the 205-5000 series EC Musashino line set. 14th September 2004 MicroAce's tentative releases for February 2005 have been announced, as follows ... A8190 DF40-1 DL 9th September 2004 Kato will release on the 9th the following ... 5127-3 Oha35 series PC (Blue) Due mid-month is the re-release of the 3005-1 EH10 EL,
and later in the month will be ... So no big releases this month from Kato, but next month we can look forward to the new version of the 651 Super Hitachi, the 683 Thunderbird, and the 'Takara' container wagon set and cars. 4th September 2004 Obviously a popular release, the MicroAce 781 Doraemon set has been re-run. In February 2005, Tomix will release 2 more items from the Shinano Railway .... 92272 Shinano Railway 169 series 3 car set - „13,500 Holy smoke Batman, these are obviously High Grade models - for only „3,400 more, I got a full 16 car 100 series Shinkansen set !!!! 1st September 2004 Due out on the 9th from Kato is the second series of the 35 series passenger cars, in both blue & brown. The re-release of the EH10 electric loco is due in the middle of the month, and later in the month should be new EF66 electric loco and the Musashino line 205-5000 electric set. Now due on October is the 30 series passenger cars, the Takara container wagon set & cars, the 683 Thunderbird, the 651 Super Hitachi and the re-release of the Cassiopeia passenger sets & loco. Due in November is the 800 series Kyushu Shinkansen set, the 20 series diesel cars, and the 185 Odoriko sets in the new colour. Tomix's releases for the rest of the year include the new colour E1 Shinkansen & Kiha58 series DC in September, the 700 series Shinkansen 'Railstar' in October, the 800 series Kyushu Shinkansen 'Tsubame' & E2 series Shinkansen 'Asama' in November, and the 485-200 series EC & E2 series Shinkansen 'Hayate' in December. The E231 Tokaido line sets will be out in January.
On the 17th September, Tomix released the 1099 18.5mm/33mm Finetrack set and re-released the 2778 Koki104 container wagon. Just out from MicroAce is .... 15th September 14th September On the 10th September, Tomix released the 4011 island platform set, and re-released the 92801 Thomas set. 2nd September 2004 Kato have released the second set of items in the Diotown Metro system. See review in issue #18. 23-408A Town shop 1 (Red) x2 31st August 2004 The re-release of the Kato 10-381 681 series Snow Rabbit Express has finally arrived, as well as the 3 different Taki1000 modern tank cars. 28th August 2004 Tomix have released 'The Bus Collection' #4, and the Kiha187 sets and cars. Also the Joban line E231 basic 3 car set has been re-released. 26th August 2004 MicroAce Times #8 has now arrived.

This magazine has just changed from being published every 3 months, to every 2 months, a very welcome change as it is always full of useful articles This month as a major article on the 'Asakaze' sleeper train, with many pages of train formations. Also featured is the 200 series Shinkansen, again with train formation and large size car drawings. There is also a comparison between the Kato and MicroAce version of the Kiha283 'Furico' sets, as well as the prototype, Kato and MicroAce versions of the 185-200 'Express 185' sets. Step by step instructions include an Greenmax Odakyu 1000, small seaside diorama, and World Kogei E22 EL. There are also some interesting statistics from reader's 'wish-list' polls, which I will present soon. MicroAce A0760 283 series EC 9 car set in wooden box 'Ocean Arrow'
This is another magnificent release from MicroAce, except for one slight reservation - it's another prototype with an unusual looking front, which some people think it looks like either a fish, turtle or duck. But that's one of the joys of collecting Japanese model trains - yours are more unusual looking than anyone else's !!! This one has been on the top of enthusiast's wishlists for many years. This is a special 6+3 car release in a wooden display case - there is also a standard 6 car set, as well as powered and un-powered 3 car sets. The cars are white and aqua, with a gold stripe along the bottom of the car side. The roof and underbody details are light gray. there are 'Ocean Arrow' logos on 4 cars, and all cars have numbers printed, as well as 'JR West Japan' logos. The interiors of the car are either yellow for the two Green cars, or alternately blue or purple. All have white headrests. Wheelsets are blackened, and the cars take Tomix interior lighting and TN couplers (except for the two cars that join the sets together - this is a BIG mistake !!!!). Dummy couplers are provided for these cars, although this is no good if you want to run the two sets together. These two cars do have switchable head/tail lights, and all lights come on brightly at low voltage. The headlights are very yellow. The power car is not as smooth or quiet as some other recent releases, but it may need a little running in. There is a selection of destination stickers, as well as a special 'Super Kuroshiro Ocean Arrow' destination board. This is a very nice release, except for the Rapido couplers that cannot be replaced - that's a shocker MicroAce !!!
