BACK ISSUES EDITORIAL Sorry about the delay in getting out this edition, but I had a layout to get ready for an exhibition !!! We believe this amount is good value, and very modest for the amount of information you will receive - it represents (per month) a lot less than just 1 coffee at a 'trendy' cafe (eg Starbucks), or a burger & fries at a family restaurant (eg McDonalds). 17th March 2005 Kato announced that the 'Sayonara Asakaze' set would be out on the 31th March, and the 787 'Relay Tsubame' and 189 'Gradeup Asama' sets would be delayed until early April. The 3 remaining Diotown accessory sets have also been put back to April. Due in mid March will be the new 205 Yamanote line EC sets, and in late March, the 787 Relay Tsubame, 189 Grade Up Asama sets, and the 'Sayonara Asakaze' passenger set. The first in a new series of old style wooden buildings, will be released in May. 18th March 2005 The new 205 series Yamanote line EC sets are out today from Kato. 17th March 2005 Greenmax release the powered and non-powered 2 car Kintetsu 22000 series ACE sets. Tomix released the UC7 & C20 container sets, and the Koki50000 & Kokifu50000 container wagons. 10th March 2005 Kato released the 205-3000 series EC Hachiko line set, and the Diotown street sign accessory set. 9th March 2005 Tomix announced the re-release in April of the JR Kyushu 800 series TEC 3 car addon set, and in May of the DD51-800 & the JR Hokkaido DD51 DL versions. 2nd March 2005 Tomix released the two passenger sets - 92278 14.15 series PC Suisei, and 92763 14.15 series PC Akatsuki sets. Although this was recorded in 2001, it gives a very good summary of the Express trains run by both JR and the many private companies in the Kanto (Tokyo and surrounding areas) region. You can choose to turn off the Japanese narration, and just hear the train sounds. After a short intro containing run-bys of a dozen or so trains, you get a menu containing the following ...
I think this area of Japan has the most variety of rolling stock shapes and colours, and it is the express types that are usually more unusual !!! So if you want to see the fascinating variety that Japanese trains can offer, this is a good DVD to watch. |

As always, this now bi-monthly publication has a wealth of information. Contents this issue include comparisons of the Kato and Tomix 800 series Kyushu Shinkansen models, building a World Kogei ED30 EL, details of the new Tomix train mounted video camera system, summary of 20 series passenger car formations, full summary of the 211 EC types, Hiroshima trams - prototype and models, comparison of the Kato 651 Super Hitachi model with the prototype, and all the usual shop, release news and model & diorama building articles. Still the best & only all-N scale Japanese model train magazine !!! Kato 23-419 Dio-town - Accessory set 1
At last we finally get some of these long-awaited items, and I can put them on the layout !!!! 23-419 is a set of street signs, including roadside, and overhead types. There are pedestrian crossing, speed limit, no parking, direction and many other type available. You can use the included small bases, or just mount them straight onto the layout. 23-420 is a set of mainly road working items. There is a small Komatsu (but labeled 'Nishimatsu' for copyright reasons - I know it is Komatsu 'cause I found it on their web page !!!) hydraulic power shovel, a hand roller, and various barricade and warning sign & lights. Also included are parking meters, 3 types of bus stops indicator boards, fire hydrant signs, curve view mirrors, traffic congestion monitor pole and a low height protection barrier that can either be ground or bridge mounted. A sheet of stickers gives many variations for the above items, as well as many alternate signs for the items in 23-419. 23-422 is 2 sheets of rub-on stickers for the road surface, including red stop and green school warning signs, lane markers and turning arrows, manholes, vision impaired navigation stripes, pedestrian crossings, bus stop, bicycle lanes etc. All of these items are indispensable in making the Japanese city part of a layout more realistic !!!

Tomix 92263 JR EF210 Container train set This is about the most up-to-date freight set you could get - it contains the latest version of the EF210 EL - the '100' subseries with single arm pantographs, and 2x the new Koki1110 container wagons, each with 4x 24A type containers. The Koki 110 is very similar to the Koki 106, but yellow, and the 24A is the only 15 ft container around at the moment. This is a specially packed set, and the items are not available separately. Special price for this month for this 3 car set will be A$120.00. The normal retail would be A$150.00 and the MSRP is A$175.00.
